    He explained it once.

    Anyway, Here's a question:

Admiral, or anyone, your flat or apt or house is on fire, you have saved your animals and families and pictures, you have time to grab a couple books (go with me on this)... what books do you grab? Signed? given to you by a friend? etc.

    Did not. :)

Ummmmmmm...strangely, I have a nostalgic connection to some children's books that I've kept forever, not because I enjoy reading them, but because they are connected to some half-memory or I like how their pages smell. I'd take those first. Then I'd do the more logical thing and try to stuff my favorite reads down my shorts on the way out. All my books are packed right now, but the two that come to mind are e.e. cummings' collected works and a compilation of works from the Nuyorican Poets' Cafe'.

    I love book smells...

I would take my signed MZD books. Also, Cosmos by Carl Sagan - one of the first books on science I ever read.

I always figured my MZD books would somehow survive on their own. I'd walk outside and they'd already be lying on the ground waiting for me.

I missed this question - are we to assume we somehow couldn't get these books again? I think HoL's a given - I don't think I'm the only person here who feels a personal connection to THEIR copy, that wouldn't be the same with a second purchase.

Actually, that's kind of strange, I really don't have that with any other books.

But Legend, by David Gemmell and Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings would be grabbed - Pawn was the first ever fantasy book I read, and totally changed who I was and am today, and Legend was arguably one of the best heroic stories I ever read.

I'm sure there are others, but those are the first that spring to mind, so I guess are the most important!
