Right? Nevermind Crab Nebula. Doesn't look anything like a crab. Space Brain Nebula from now on.

That branch is nicely in focus.![]()

It was a chance encounter. About a block from home, right above the sidewalk. Took a few shots with the phone and then it dawned on me to just go home and get a real camera, to bad there wasn't a real photographer to go with it... Most of the pictures turned out bad. This one grew on me though. I kind of like that the focus is on the branch and the hawk is in the background. If you look closely you'll also find death in the picture. Wish I could take credit for it but it was all luck.
All men are islands, influenced by the wind.
Look at how many damn stars there are. The Rosette Nebula in the middle fills about 1.3 degrees of the sky, which is about 3 times the width of the full moon.
It does look like a Rosette.
Meanwhile, things have really changed on Wall Street since July.

That's amazing--mostly because that guy actually exists--but amazing nonetheless.
That's actually the president of Columbia, Mr. Lee Bollinger.
Seriously, lots of neat stuff going on in that one. Nicely done.

I've started generating colour images with the new (watercooled) camera:

The Soap Bubble (PN G75.5+1.7) is a planetary nebula in Cygnus. It is so faint that it was only discovered in 2007, by a guy called Dave Jurasevich.
Here's a close-up (it's the circle about 1/4 the width of the image, dead-centre):

That thing needs to be circumcised.
God Damn it's good to see you post fats, also great work my friend. When did you get into space photography? Thread was TL;DR
I've come to believe errors, especially written errors, are often the only markers left by a solitary life: to sacrifice them is to lose the angles of personality, the riddle of a soul. In this case a very old soul. A very old riddle.
Awesome pictures! Love seeing the pictures of space, great work!
photography? Thread was TL;DR[/QUOTE]
Thank you. Initially started goofing around with it in about 2001, the same time I joined here. In 2008, when I landed my current job, I finally had the steady income needed to fund it properly. So now I have my own observatory.
New camera and telescope, in fact:
The yellow bit is the new telescope, a Takahashi Epsilon 180 ED f/2.8 astrograph (if you know telescopes, you know f/2.8 is stupidly fast)
The red bit is the new camera, an Atik 4000 Mono. 4MP black and white sensor capable of being cooled to 40 degrees below ambient.
Thanks Carl.
Holy shit fats! That's amazing. Also, congrats on having your own observatory. No wonder you've been posting the pics you have been. :)

And this is what the combination can do:
Horsehead and Flame Nebulae in Hydrogen Alpha
Rosette Nebula in SHO/Hubble Palette
California Nebula in Hydrogen Alpha
F_S, I really love that photo.... it's beautiful.
Fatwoul is just showing off now... (I'm bitter I haven't yet received the photo he promised..... ) :(
Ok, a few from me:
Somewhere underground...
Exploring German mines:
The two photos I was awarded merits for at a caving convention... (I've never had an award for a photo before so this is very exciting for me... :p)
