I'm sure this has been noticed and just not commented on, but I thought it was a nice touch that iTunes has it listed as "(p) 2007 Circle Round A Stone"
All men are islands, influenced by the wind.
Great idea... and Circle Round A Stone rules... YEAH!

4 reels downloaded from iTunes, and I began to listen, this morning, while driving : great experience. Love the music, and sounds on certain words. But, Ellimist is right : there's something strange with Hailey(xis) voice, OR accent. On purpose ?

Well, the mp3 seems to sound good enough for an mp3. My comment is more about the reading itself. I've listened to MZD in various other performances, and I don't like this particular one a lot. Hailey, I don't like her at all. I don't think I could listen to her for 4.5 hours. I liked some of the auditioners a lot better than MZD and Hailey girl. The OR Audio Project is kind of a letdown for me right now.Originally Posted by marsjams13

i've started playing around with mixing the sam and hailey tracks together, i've finished a two minute trial run, it sounds pretty damn wicked

Can we taste your mix ?
If you agree, send me an MP, I'll give you my mail...![]()

Sam and Hailey Two Minute Sample
Thanks goes to Zed and the other Z for their anticipation of this sort of mix and the hard work they put in to make it possible.
All men are islands, influenced by the wind.
I downloaded the two minute sample. It works really well for the first thirty seconds or so. Then it starts to sound almost like a train wreck as the reading doesn't sound so in sync. It was interesting though, thanks for sharing!

In the voice of Henrietta Pussycat: "Meow meow Danielewski meow, meow Familiar? Meow 27 meow! Meow meow we meow tour meow year."
Google translated version: "Have you heard of Danielewski`s project, The Familiar? It is 27 volumes! We hope we can tour for it next year."

You're welcome.
I think it does that because Alexis reads a bit faster then Mark does. I think it adds a nice sort of echo, and it doesn't stay out of sync, they go in and out of sync, over the course of the tracks.

Okay, so I bought and downloaded Reel 1 from PayPlay.fm.
It sounds really crisp and clear - very nice. However, the site says "All tracks are 192kbps high fidelity sound quality."
It is not 192 Constant Bit Rate, I believe it is Average Bit Rate, so that there is more data in use when there is a lot of sound, and when there is just some soft spokenness and no music, it is only at 128 kbps. I think the range is 128-224, just from observation.
Hrm...
MZD's voice is so much more powerful than Alexis's... Not just loud, but more imposing and it makes you want to listen.
Downloaded ! Thanks a lot !Originally Posted by heartbreak

I don't know if anyone else has noticed or thought on this yet, but, in regard to the now-unreleased Reel 5:
I'm looking forward to finding out what this is. I was talking to heartbreak about it, and he suggested maybe it's the instrumental track that played on this flash site (now hosted elsewhere) before the book's release. Seems like a good guess, though I'm still hoping for something totally new.Plus three Bonus Tracks:
Little Runaway by Poe, written when she was a teenager. Piano by Nathan Rosenberg.
Revolutions Of Ruin by Mark Z Danielewski & Kenneth Burgomaster. With very special thanks to Kimberly Beder, Eamon Cannon, Kevin Connolly, Carolyn Eilola, Christy Gordon, Gwen, Siobhan Hanson, Erik Hartley, Heartbreak, Paul Jensen, Kristin Larch, Alexis Madden, Jeff Moody, Curtis Rasico, Johnny Rogers, Nowlin Scoggins, Clayton Sims, Fearful Syzygy and of course G@rp.
Prelude by Mark Z Danielewski, Kenneth Burgomaster and Richard Wagner.
Either way, I like how this 'Prelude' is listed on the last track of Reel 5, which should technically be the end of the audio, but suggests it's also, again, the beginning.

The Prelude track is the ORPrelude from the old preview flash site. Unfortunately it isn't anything "brand new". The Poe track is pretty brand new to the rest of us though.

I hope we get Reel 5 soon.
I particularly want to hear the end being read by MZD.

Oooh, tempting.
I'm going to try and hold out for Reel 5 on iTunes a bit longer, but they really seem to be taking their time with it.

It turned out a lot different than I had thought it might. Hailey's voice sounds higher than I ever would have imagined, a little too childish for here to feign being so wizened at just sixteen. Her O's don't sound full enough. I don't know. I would have liked a deeper voice, something a bit more foreboding generally, with the music as well, I want it to be as dark as Revolutions of Ruin which was so amazing.
I also liked the different faces of that track. It might have been an interesting product if they had combined all of the auditioners into the book reading. It would show how ever changing the characters are.
Just so everyone's aware,Reel 5 is now up on iTunes.

Thanks for the iTunes update, I'd forgotten to check this morning. (They update usually on Tuesdays, but for some reason did the first four reels on Wednesday... and now the fifth as well.)Originally Posted by CpVb006
I'll buy the iTunes version, just to have a complete iTunes set, but I'd already gotten reel five from payplay and I'm planning to get the Musicishere flacs as well once they become available.
Overall, I'm a bit disappointed in the audio presentation. Theof Leaves audio project was great and I was hoping for more of the same, but I think the voices are a bit different than I expected and the backing music is a bit too repetitive for my liking. I'll probably warm up to it as a whole when I have more time to invest in it.
Still great that Mark and Alexis took the time to read it all out in a full production sort of way, and excellent that Danny Elfman and Poe contributed as well. I guess I was just expecting a bit "more" and got a minimal "less".
