If the Editors compiled the Index, they are at least aware of Danielewski: Have a look at the first reference for "mark" in the Index.

The headaches come and go.. doctors aren't quite sure why I get them, the dislocated rib is nothing big, just hurts like hell. I've had several over the years do to playing hard. Thanks for the concern though. :)

    syringes and panpipes

Anyone else curious about the further connection of Zampano and zamponas (panpipes referenced in All the Lights of Midnight)

"Another term for the pan flute is syrinx, from Greek mythology, the story of Pan. The plural of syrinx is syringes, from which the modern word syringe is derived." - from wikipedia:panpipes

could Zampano be the panpipes calling Johnny into the Navidson story arranged by his mother (her 'lost' letters, the great work she alludes to preparing for him)

I know, more name puns in an MZD book. any thoughts? am i seeing connections that aren't there?

'zamponas' are really zampoñas you know, with a 'ñ' instead of an 'n'. I do thin you're seeing something that isn't there.

Could this entire syringe/key/keyhole relationship not be allegorical? Johnny is the syringe-somewhat of a druggie, but more importantly, the syringe brings out a different person, which some would argue Johnny is (an alter ego of P or Z). P and Z are a key and keyhole, but while trying to avoid sexual connotations, I can't really decide which is which. I would say Z is the keyhole, because he constructs everything, but P is the key because she writes notes to Johnny in the same code Z used in his footnotes. Johnny then realizes the code through the key.
