Another curiosity- are the last five and a half minutes Johnny spends with his mom (p.517) the source for the 5 & 1/2 minute hallway?

I don't think so, but maybe. I think "The 5 1/2 minute hallway refers to the short film mentioned in the beginning of HOL. But it could also be MZD's use of echo effect.

actually.. argh.. i think i lost my log from #poe chat during the 'moderated' fiasco. anyway, i asked Poe about the origins of the five and a half minute hallway. she said it had something to do with a shared experience with her brother.. that was five and a half minutes long and was apparently pretty terrible. forgive me for not quoting.. if i ever find the log, or if someone else does, i'll post the relevant portions up.
