Bluepurse.com is a wiki-powered, user-edited encyclopedia dedicated to the categorization, collection, and streamlining of factual information in House of Leaves.

Welcome!

Please ask questions, provide suggestions, etc in this thread, and I'll see what I can do. This site is community driven, like these forums. It will not be moderator driven. Moderators are there only to keep order - prevent spamming, etc. The site will be what everyone makes of it as a group. The domain and server space have been generously donated by Zero (http://www.houseofleaves.com/forum/member.php?u=77610).

If you are familiar with wiki editing, please feel free to jump right in and start creating/editing pages. If not, you'll find the Editing Help (http://www.bluepurse.com/wiki/index.php/Help:Editing) page very useful. It's quite easy once you use it for a few minutes.

The site is pretty empty right now, so find an article, hit Edit, and go!*


*Also, you can make an account, but it's not required to edit pages, just if you want to create pages or keep track of your edits, etc.

I know the feeling elmago. I wish I had more time to work on it. It will probably take years to fill it up so no hurray I guess. So far I've been going for bits and pieces here and there whenever I have five or ten extra minutes to kill. Will probably be that way for awhile. If you do find yourself with the time, feel free to jump right in. It would be great to have you on board.

Although the end result will be advantageous as an information source, its the process of creating it that I think has the most benefit to me. You end up finding quite a few minor interesting little things. For example, the first mention of Holloway's 300 Magnum and the first mention of JT buying a 300 Magnum are 300 pages apart. Of course it could be coincidence but there have been numerous similar occurrences. The structure with which MZD built his House never ceases to astonish me, likewise the chaos that is the result of his structural work. He is an amazing craftsman.

I've tried to confirm my email with the wiki site, so I can better track conversations and edits, but whenever I ask it to email me a confirmation code, it tells me:


Could not send confirmation mail. Check address for invalid characters.
Mailer returned: mailer error

Just using a regular email address, letters then an @, then more letters with one period. Is anyone else having this problem?

Haha, yeah, sorry about that. I have tried a couple times to get the email server set up, but the second time I tried, I had to reinstall the entire site... so... still working on it. :smile:

Okay, then. No big deal. Your posts to this thread have been helpful in keeping up with the wiki, not to mention just remembering to look at it. Email updates are the best way for me to keep track of various internet activities, but certainly not the only way.

I hope to get it working at some point. But right now, I believe you can use RSS to track changes to history pages. When you look at a history page, there's an RSS link at the bottom left.

The hosting service had an outage, something happened, and I can't get ahold of the domain holder/money-man.

All I really need to get a HoL Wiki going is money, so I will have to wait until I am not in debt, which will be September, after I move (moving is EXPENSIVE).

However, I need to know if anyone is even INTERESTED in this enough for me to spend the time in maintaining the site... Please let me know.

I like reading comprehensive wikis. I don't know if there's a huge audience for this book to begin with, let alone a big audience that will continue to read things about the book long after they've read it. I think that, with a wiki like this, you either make it because you're passionate about something and you really want to do it (and every one who reads it and appreciates the work put into it is a shiny bonus), or you don't make it at all. I assume you're passionate enough, as you've been updating all this time, so I'd say: keep going!

Also, infrastructure. Their hosting may not be able to run a wiki site.
