View Full Version : Questions about ARCs

Would it be possible for someone with an ARC to post a picture of it?

And also, are all of the ARCs signed?

And does anyone know how many ARCs went out?

All the ARCs aren't signed, no.

The ARC is simply a black and white paperback version of the released version, it has a cover that looks like the dust jacket of the released version, it says "Advance Reader's Edition" across the top.

No.

Less then 60. 60 were planned but some people didn't respond to emails, or had defunct emails, so they never were sent one. I think Mark said about 50 actually went out.

To clarify, less than 60 went out to forum members. We have no idea how many went out to people in the publishing industry.

Ellimist, do you have something against Hailey?

heartbreak
09-22-2006, 06:24 AM
LOL allright...

yes i did get them all signed, it was funny, i had waited off to the side till the line had cleared, it got down to about five people when I got inline, Mark looked up from the book he was signing saw my stack of books, and remarked "Oh God..." Then when I got up there some of his friends had been standing around and had asked me what they all were, and then one of them asked Mark "How well do you know your own books?" I thanked Mark for the ARC and for using my voice on RoR. He asked me who he was. I told him. Then he had gotten through my three copies of OR, the uk hol the full color, the french, italian, and he was signing the japanese I think, when he said "I bet you don't have the Serbian Croatian edition?" to which I replied "You mean this one, and pulled it out of the remaining stack. He laughed, and I told him how I just had to Western Union the money and hope the book was sent. Then he asked, "What about the greek one?" And I had to say that that was the only one I didn't have, but it would be coming soon thanks to fearful helping with the translation. I had just told him to sign them, he didn't need to personalize each one, just because there were so many and all his friends were waiting on him. He did however draw a few pictures, and signed the UK "For you" which was cool.

Edit: Oh yah, Mark has a sarcastic streak in him that is just awesome. :D

There was one on eBay a while ago, but that's the only one I've ever seen, and I have a feeling there was a guy on here once who claimed that all the UK hardbacks had been handmade from paperbacks in New Zealand, or something like that.

Edit: seems that wasn't quite (http://www.houseofleaves.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3232#post3232) how it went, but close enough.

Re-edit: Here (http://www.houseofleaves.com/forum/showthread.php?p=72111#post72111)'s the guy I was thinking of, for what it's worth.

The UK hardback was only a print run of 200. They generally go for about 300.00 from what I've seen.

This is the book that started it all. So many notes, who the hell needs the search function when i got this

Ahhhhh.

When I got my copy of T50YS a while ago, it had a huge crease down the middle of the dust jacket. I was pissed. How much do you think it will decrease the value? It's also not signed, so it might not have any value.

why? are you planning to sell it?

as long as it is of value to you, then enjoy owning a copy.

In book collecting a lot of value is held in the dust jacket, so to a straight collector, or rare book store, it would decrease the value tremandously.

That sucks. Of course, I'm not expecting it to ever sell for as much as a Gutenberg Bible, but MZD's books do seem to sell for a lot very very quickly.

I expect there are about 200,000 of them floating around. ;) But I've seen sellers on ebay claiming they have the green cover, or the gold cover version, so if sutrix can get some poor sap to pay a million bucks for his special edition. Well, more power to him....
